The Pierce County Board of Health was recently named Board of Health of the Year by the Wisconsin Association of Local Health Departments and Boards (WALHDAB) for encouraging partnerships and innovation and for their steadfast support of public health staff.
“We are lucky to have a committed and experienced Board of Health in Pierce County. Members have supported staff in implementing innovative programs, including a new dental care partnership for toddlers and pregnant women and awarding COVID-19 recovery grants for community organizations to improve opportunities for physical activity. Board of Health members supported staff members through the most challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic and championed best-practice public health policies,” said AZ Snyder, Public Health Director.
The Pierce County Board of Health consists of five elected county supervisors and three appointed community members with expertise in public health and healthcare. The Board of Health is responsible for oversight of Pierce County Public Health, including policy development. Pierce County Board of Health members were selected for the award by the WALHDAB awards committee, which includes public health staff and Board of Health members from across the state. The Pierce County Board of Health was honored during the annual awards ceremony in Madison on May 24.
Board members include Jon Aubart (Chair), Neil Gulbranson (Vice-Chair), Jim Ashbach, Peter Carr, Rodney Gilles, Dr. Becky Kleager, Lynn Paatalo, and Sharon Schulze.
