Plum City Care Center stays busy with summer activities

Monday Movers exercisers started their week strong by following Stacey and Noel in a series of gentle, yet invigorating, seated exercises. Our group may have been small, but everyone put in a big effort! The crowd grew in size significantly as Karaoke Sing-a-Long started next. Voices singing along to classic tunes could be heard throughout the dining room and care center hallways; music is always a wonderful way to start the day! The morning passed quickly and progressed into lunch before you knew it; afterwards, mail was delivered to residents. The afternoon began with Crafty Corner and this week Stacey and Noel assisted folks with making beautiful button flower gardens. Those interested stayed out for a game of Tic Tac Toss and along with many folks scoring a three-in-a-row, Shirley Klinski came in fourth, Kevin Bauer, Goldie Helwig, Kay George and Nancy Bishop all won third and Dorothy Shannon and Yvonne Sinz tied for second. Judy Thorn was this week’s first-place winner with a massive 90 points! Supper was up next and then everyone settled in for a fun evening game of Bingo.

A quiet Tuesday morning began with Mass after breakfast with Father Jojo and Terry Pelzel. Residents really enjoy the peaceful morning spent in prayer and our faith leaders always have a ready smile that lifts everyone’s spirits! Lunchtime came and went, along with mail delivery; soon Stacey was in the dining room to make delicious, fresh popcorn for our Popcorn Social! Once everyone filled their bellies with the yummy snack, there was time for visiting and chatting with residents in their rooms. Later on, Pastor Darren from Lund Covenant was here for afternoon church and everyone gathered to listen to his words of reflection, comfort and faith. A storm was brewing early in the evening and in preparation for a possible thunderstorm, supper was a little earlier than usual. Thankfully the storm blew through quickly and Cameron brought folks out for an evening of fun games!

Bowling occupied our time Wednesday morning and the group was ready to roll…a bowling ball that is! Since the kids were off for the summer, we had no student helpers, but that didn’t stop the residents from strutting their stuff on the bowling lane. Kay George came in fourth, Milda Bautch was third and Shirley Klinski and Kevin Bauer tied for second. Janet Robelia and Zeona Bechel were the first-place champions of the game! Also, Janet played a particularly great game as she was the only player to score not one, but two strikes during the game! Fruit Bingo commenced after lunch and Marlene Zimmer and Kathy Shingledecker came to lend their helping hands (and smiling faces!) with set up, clean up and passing prizes. Lucky lady Barb Grewe from the Seasons won Blackout Bingo for the second week in a row! For our Mid-Week Social treat, a big group was in the dining room to snack on cool and juicy watermelon.

Thursday morning found residents ready for our Local News and Coffee group with Kathy Shingledecker.  She always has a brilliant smile and stories to share as she read folks the newspapers and caught up everyone on the happenings in the community. Lunch was next on the agenda, as well as mail delivery, and then it was on to our afternoon activities! Cameron came to give the lineup of ladies manicures and all the gals were very happy to freshen up their nail polish. There was enough time for some visiting in the afternoon and then supper was on the table! After the meal was cleaned up, Cameron brought residents together for an evening game of Pokeno in the dining room!

The week flew by and soon it was Friday morning…time for Shuffleboard! Noel had such a large group gathered that there was only time for everyone to play two rounds but that was plenty of time for Nancy Bishop to nab fourth place, Dorothy Pfaffe and Jeff Halverson tied for third and Milda Bautch and Kay George tied for second. Shirley Klinski was our first-place Shuffleboard champion! The group adjourned to enjoy a little lunch and then Noel and “Chef” Jeff Halverson (as well as a few supervisors!) were in the dining room for Snack Makers, making donut kabobs in honor of National Donut Day. They were a fun and tasty treat at Happy Hour where everyone was out to listen to the tunes of Rich Schroeder. Supper came quickly after the party and then Noel drew the shades and dimmed the lights for a small crowd to watch “Calamity Jane” for Movie Night!
