Prescott Parks & Public Works highlight plans for Leo’s Landing Marina

Discussions surround Phase 2 of downtown riverfront planning

PRESCOTT – Greg Adams of Cedar Corporation was on hand at the June 19 Prescott Parks & Public Works committee meeting to propose a revised layout of the downtown riverfront area.

  • The committee plans to request the DNR to approve public parking to be allowed on the northwest side of Second Street as the land was purchased as part of the Knowles Nelson program.
  • Discussion was also made regarding the current Leo’s Landing Marina, as the committee is considering the addition of a public dock for overnight boaters or temporary boat parking in that space.
  • The committee is planning on converting the home at 256 Front St. to a permanent commercial building so it will need to be brought to commercial code. City Administrator Matt Wolf explained the goal is to have the building be a commercial space with a focus on recreation, such as a bait shop or kayak outfitter. The City of Prescott is still researching the public interest and financial stability of that goal.
  • The committee is also requesting the shrubs to be removed from the greenspace as they felt the landscape visual break was no longer needed.

The projected timeline for the completion of the second phase of the downtown riverfront area project is 2025. The next Parks committee meeting will be on July 17, 2023.
