ELLSWORTH – Ellsworth Fire Department was dispatched to a deck on fire in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 16.

At 1:10 a.m., firefighters responded to 435 Golf Course Lane and found a single-family home heavily engulfed in flames. Two residents were inside asleep at the time; they were able to evacuate before the firefighters arrived.

Crews worked on scene for over two hours. The fire ruptured a natural gas line connected to the house. The fire is believed to be caused by hot embers from a grill that were placed in a can on the deck. Pierce County property records list Justin A. Lamb as the homeowner.

One household cat went missing, but has since been located alive and well.

Ellsworth Fire was assisted by River Falls Fire Department, Ellsworth Police Department, Pierce County, WE Energies and Pierce Pepin Cooperative.
