Letter to the editor: Homelessness presentation

Posted

To the editor,

I found Sarah Nigbor’s Sept. 6, 2023 article reporting on the Aug. 22 River Falls City Council meeting where homelessness was addressed very informative.

Almost everyone would agree with Alderperson Nick Carow’s assertion that “Perhaps it is time to invest in the resources that are here and in our region” to address “the challenges that face homelessness, poverty….”.

Where the disagreement seems to lie is in the question, “Does River Falls have a homeless problem?” Nick says “no,” local homeless advocate Dana Linscott says “yes.”

If you are interested in hearing more from Dana about the homeless situation in River Falls, you are invited to attend the Sept. 17 service of the Unitarian-Universalist Society of River Falls, N8010 US Highway 65, where Dana will provide an overview of the growing problem of homelessness in River Falls and the city's ongoing efforts to criminalize rather than assist those who find themselves without shelter. The causes of local homelessness and practical long- and short-term solutions will be presented for discussion. Dana will have much more than two minutes to express his views. The service begins at 10:30 a.m.
