Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at 1:41 p.m. June 15 at Highway 65 and County Road J in the town of Ellsworth between a 2015 Chrysler 200, driven by Danielle Nicole Johnson, 30, Ellsworth, and a 2017 Ford F55 utility truck, driven by Jeffrey Richard Dagle, 50, East Bethel, Minn. Johnson was stopped at the stop sign on J near Highway 65. She turned left onto Highway 65 and did not see Dagle traveling northbound. He struck Johnson’s vehicle near the rear driver’s side door and came to rest on the southbound shoulder. Johnson continued south and came to rest on the southbound shoulder. EMS evaluated Johnson and a 5-year-old child (who both wore seat belts) for suspected minor injuries, but they declined transport. Dagle wore a seat belt and reported no injuries. Johnson’s vehicle was towed due to disabling damage, while Dagle’s truck had functional damage.

Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at 4:05 p.m. June 15 on 110oth Street just south of Highway 35 in the town of Oak Grove between a 2002 Worh Step Van, driven by Roy Brian Larrive, 59, St. Paul, and a 2022 Honda CRV, driven by Dina Nicole Anderson, 50, Prescott. Larrive was stopped at the stop sign on 1100th Street. He backed up due to traffic attempting to turn left onto 1100th Street. He didn’t see that Anderson had stopped behind him and struck her front-end. Both drivers wore seat belts and reported no injuries. The van had no damage, while the Honda had minor damage.

Police were called at 5:03 p.m. June 18 to a UTV crash at 610th Avenue and 670th Street in the town of Ellsworth.

Jeffrey Lee Conley, Beldenville, was operating a 2019 Sportsman Polaris northbound on 670th when he failed to negotiate the T-intersection and rolled. Conley, who had been drinking, reported a shoulder injury. The ATV had scraped paint and a broken storage container cover.

Officers responded at 2:11 p.m. June 21 to a one-vehicle crash on 70th Street just north of Elk Creek Road in the town of Maiden Rock. A 2021 Subaru Crosstrek, driven by Tracy Lynn Moline, 45, Pepin, was heading north on 70th Street, a narrow gravel road. Moline struck a pile of gravel in the southbound/ middle promotion of the road, causing damage to the vehicle. Moline drove about one-half mile further before stopping. Moline said the road work was not properly noticed and she didn’t see the gravel mound. The lone township worker was not on scene at the time of the crash and was hauling material to the location to be worked on. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Moline wore a seat belt and reported no injuries.

Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at 5:50 p.m. June 21 on US Highway 10 just east of First Street in the town of Union between a 2018 Ford F150, driven by Marilynne Diane Perkins,

79, Maiden Rock, and a 1998 Chevy Geo Metro, driven by

Gustav E. Eberhardt, 47, Hixton. Perkins was facing southbound on First Street/ County Road S at the Highway 10 intersection, negotiating a left hand turn to go east on Highway 10 when she struck Eberhardt, who was traveling east on Highway 10. The Ford had functional damage while the Metro was towed due to disabling damage. Perkins and passenger Susan Mary McQueary, 71, Des Moines, Iowa, wore seat belts and reported no injuries. Eberhardt also wore a seat belt and reported no injuries; he was cited for operating while revoked.

Deputies responded at 6:56 a.m. June 22 to a one-vehicle rollover crash on County Road M just east of Carlson Lane in the town of Clifton. A 2000 Toyota Camry, driven by Wyatt James Hoepfl, 16, Prescott, was heading east on County Road M. Hoepfl admitted to falling asleep and woke up when he was crossing the center line. He overcorrected, spun around and entered the south ditch into a cornfield, where the vehicle rolled 1.5 times, coming to rest on its roof. Hoepfl wore a seat belt and reported no injuries. The vehicle had to be towed due to disabling damage. Hoepfl was cited for failure to keep vehicle under control.

Officers responded at 11:45 a.m. June 22 to a two-vehicle crash at Highway 35 and 805th Street in the town of Trenton between a 2019 Peterbilt 567 straight truck, driven by Daniel Eugene Westerberg,

29, Hager City, and a 2022 Kenworth Motors T680 tractor- trailer with semi, driven by Paul Arthur Frandsen,

88, Spring Valley. Westerberg was heading southbound on Highway 35 when Frandsen, who was entering Highway 35 from 805th Street, failed to yield the right-of-way. Westerberg tried to conduct an evasive maneuver to avoid being struck, but Frandsen struck him on the passenger side. Both vehicles had minor damage; both drivers wore seat belts and reported no injuries.

Deputies responded to a one-vehicle crash at 8:35 p.m. June 22 on Highway 128 one mile west of Partridge Avenue in the town of Spring Lake. A 2012 Yamaha YZFR6, operated by Quentin Lee Berhow, 17, New Richmond, was traveling north on Highway 128, failed to negotiate a curve and lost control, causing it to overturn. The motorcycle struck the southbound guardrail and continued on, coming to rest in the northbound ditch. Berhow, who wore a helmet, was found in the southbound ditch, on the opposite side of the guardrail. A helicopter transported him to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with suspected serious injuries. The motorcycle had minor damage. Berhow was cited for failure to keep vehicle under control and passing in a no-passing zone.

Officers responded at 4:58 p.m. June 23 to a one-vehicle crash on County Road J just east of Highway 65 in the town of Ellsworth. A 2011 Peterbilt Motors Co. 386 ag motor vehicle, driven by Gerald Richard Pieper, 75, Ellsworth, was heading north on Highway 65 and attempted to turn right onto County Road J. He was traveling at a high rate of speed and tipped over onto the driver’s side. The cargo dropped into the ditch. The vehicle had to be towed. Pieper, who wore a seat belt, was taken by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with suspected serious injuries.

Police were called at 2:36 p.m. June 25 to a motorcycle crash on Highway 35 one-third mile east of 170th Avenue in the town of Trenton. A 2021 Harley Davidson XL1200, operated by Tina Marie Stubbs-Sow, 48, Hudson, was traveling south on Highway 35 when it lost control, crossed the center line, drove into the north ditch and overturned. An ambulance transported Stubbs-Sow to a Minnesota hospital with suspected serious injuries. She was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The motorcycle had functional damage. Stubbs-Sow may have fainted while operating the Harley.

Police responded at 3:05 p.m. June 26 to a motorcycle crash on County Road A 1.1 miles north of 330th Avenue in the town of Salem. A 2010 Harley Davidson FLHX, operated by Jeffrey G. Schmidt, 53, Spring Valley, was heading south on County Road A when it lost control on some loose gravel, crossed the center line and entered the east ditch. The motorcycle struck a right arrow curve sign and overturned. Schmidt was not wearing a helmet; an ambulance transported him to a Minnesota hospital with suspected serious injuries. The motorcycle had to be towed due to disabling damage.

Deputies responded to a motorcycle vs. turkey crash at 3:09 p.m. June 26 on Highway 35 just south of 370th Avenue in the town of Diamond Bluff. A 2007 Harley Davidson FLHRS, driven by Richard Albert Esquivel, 63, Eden Prairie, Minn., was operating south on Highway 35 when a wild turkey entered the road from the southwest ditch. Esquivel braked but struck the turkey, which was airborne in the southbound lane of travel. Esquivel lost control and turned onto his side, slid in the southbound lane and came to rest down the road. Multiple witnesses pushed the motorcycle out of the road, which had to be towed due to disabling damage. Esquivel, who wore a half-helmet, was taken by ambulance to a Minnesota hospital with suspected minor injuries.

Officers responded at 5:18 p.m. June 26 to a one-vehicle crash on 280th Street about one-half mile north of 350th Avenue in the town of Salem. A 2012 Kia Sorento, driven by Hunter Uriah Hanson, 16, Maiden Rock, was heading west on 370th Avenue negotiating a left curve into 280th Street when it lost control and started sliding sideways in the road. The Kia eventually entered the east ditch and rolled over onto its side. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. It’s unknown if Hanson wore a seat belt, but he reported no injuries. An 11-year-old passenger, whose seat belt use is unknown, also reported no injuries.

Deputies responded at 9:47 a.m. June 27 to a two-vehicle crash at US Highway 10 and First Street in Plum City between a 2022 Ford Econoline van (FedEx truck), driven by Kevin Joseph Gervais, 27, Bloomer, and a 1999 KNNW semi, driven by Jeffrey Robert Wiskow, 41, Goodhue, Minn. Gervais was traveling westbound on Highway 10 and slowed to make a northbound turn onto County Road S. Wiskow was heading west behind Gervais and said he didn’t see Gervais’ right blinker; he also saw Gervais’ brake lights go on just prior to the intersection. Wiskow swerved to the right to avoid rear-ending Gervais and ended up side-swiping the van. Gervais said he had his blinker on when he slowed to make the turn. Incab camera footage from Gervais showed he slowed to make the turn. The van was towed due to disabling damage. The semi had functional damage. Both drivers wore seat belts and reported no injuries.

Officers responded to a one-vehicle crash at 6:10 a.m. June 30 on US Highway 10 just east of 330th Avenue in the town of Salem. A 2005 Nissan Altima, driven by Zachary Phillip Armstrong,

34, Plum City, was heading westbound on Highway 10 down a hill in heavy rain. Armstrong said the vehicle spun in the road an unknown number of times, entered the south ditch sideways and struck the hillside/ embankment. The car eventually stopped in the south ditch. Armstrong wore a seat belt and had suspected minor injuries, but declined EMS. The vehicle had functional damage. Deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash at 4:09 p.m. June 30 on Highway 65 just south of 610th Avenue in the town of Ellsworth between a 2010 Chevrolet Impala, driven by Jacob Franklynn Sanders, 18, Hammond, and a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Daniel Charles Brenner, 64, Ellsworth. Sanders was heading north on Highway 65 and Brenner was traveling southbound. Sanders crossed the center line into the northbound lane; Brenner tried to swerve to avoid him, but couldn’t and the vehicles collided. Brenner’s vehicle then flipped over and slid on its roof, coming to rest in the southbound lane. Both vehicles were towed due to disabling damage. Sanders and his two passengers, age 10 and 12, wore seat belts and reported no injuries. Brenner and his 14-year-old passenger both wore seat belts and reported no injuries.

Officers were called at 5:29 p.m. June 30 to a one-vehicle crash on Highway 29 just north of Park Drive in Spring Valley. A 2004 Ford Escape, driven by Theron Howard Reiter,

21, Bellevue, Iowa, was traveling west on Highway 29 when the front left tire came off. The vehicle then struck the roadway and continued about 30 feet without a tire, causing damage to the axle and frame. The vehicle was towed due to disabling damage. Reiter wore a seat belt and reported no injuries.

Police responded to a fatal motorcycle crash at 11:13 a.m. July 3 on County Road F one-third mile south of 742nd Street in the town of Clifton. A 2006 Harley Davidson FXSTI, operated by Thomas Michael Weijk, 58, New Richmond, was traveling south on County Road F when it entered the west ditch and struck a tree. Weijk was thrown from the motorcycle and came to rest in the west ditch. A helicopter took Weijk to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, where he died at 6:33 p.m. from his injuries. The motorcycle was towed due to disabling damage. Weijk was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The Life Link III helicopter was dispatched to a single motorcycle accident on County Road OO near 410th Avenue in Diamond Bluff Township. Gregory Sutton,

58, from Savage, MN, was operating a 2001 Harley Davidson southbound on County Road OO. Sutton’s motorcycle left the roadway while negotiating a curve and entered the ditch, ejecting Sutton and a passenger, Shelley Tan, 58, from Prior Lake, MN. Sutton was transported to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN by Life Link III. Tan was transported by Ellsworth Area Ambulance Service to Mayo Hospital in Red Wing, MN with undetermined injuries. Police were dispatched to a motorcycle crash with injuries July 9 at 11:39 p.m. on Hwy. 63 near Hwy. 10 in Ellsworth Township. Kyle Fautt, 44, from Ellsworth was operating a 1998 Honda northbound on Hwy. 63 near Hwy. 10 when he lost control while approaching the intersection and laid his motorcycle down. Fautt and a passenger, Alicia Fautt, 34, from Ellsworth, were both ejected from the motorcycle, which came to rest in the eastbound lane of Hwy. 10. Mr. Fautt was transported from the scene by Ellsworth Area Ambulance Service to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN for treatment of injuries. Mrs. Fautt was transported from the scene by Life Link III Helicopter to Regions Hospital with undetermined injuries. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Ellsworth Area Ambulance Service, Ellsworth Fire Department and Life Link III.
