“I have successfully completed the 30-year transition from wanting to stay up late to just wanting to go to bed.” And that, my friends, is exactly how many of our seniors feel after nearly a month of being “holed up” in their rooms! But we are hoping the end is in sight of this brief encounter with another round of Covid.

However, we were able to enjoy a few activities during the past week. On Tuesday, Father Jojo and Terry Pelzel made the rounds bringing communion to our Catholic folks. It’s a welcome respite for many of our folks and a comfort to have them among us. Wednesday was National Waffle Iron Day. What a silly thing to celebrate. Stacey made waffles topped with delicious pure maple syrup from the farm of Jess and Jenny Hass! She’s a nurse by day, and a farmer the rest of the time.

Much of the rest of our week was spent sit – ting outside, soaking up the hot summer sun to remember when those brisk winter winds will blow. Our flowers are blooming, does and fawns dot the backyard, and the birds are busy raising babies. We are fortunate to have the time to relish in these simple pleasures. We continue to catch up on reading, a few jigsaw puzzles, and watching the Brewers on television.

Soon enough, the week’s end arrives and happy hour is rolling down the hallway. It was a celebration of our country’s independence and many Uncle Sams were present along with Lady Liberty. Did you know, that on Sept. 7, 1813, the United States got its nickname, Uncle Sam. The name is linked to Samuel Wilson, a meat packer from Troy, New York, who supplied barrels of beef to the United States Army during the War of 1812.

Drums and a rendition of “Stars & Stripes Forever” announced our crazy activity gals. Popsicles cooled us down for the afternoon and the week came to a close.

It’s amazing to consider that June has al – ready ended. We often consider the brevity of life, tempered by finding value in each day we’re given. We hope you will consider enriching our lives with a visit this summer. Until we see you…
