As the warm weather returns to the state of Wisconsin, so does the time for residents to find detours as road construction season returns.

At the June 12 Pierce County Traffic Safety Commission meeting, attendees heard brief updates about the state and county road construction projects in the area.

Rick Tumaniec of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation updated the commission on State Highway projects in the county.

A retaining wall project in Maiden Rock is ongoing, with plans to replace some of the walls and completion planned for November.
“[Traffic] is being directed with temporary signals past the area where they’re working,” Tumaniec said.

A bridge rehab on Big River Bridge at WIS 35 is expected to be completed in August with traffic also being directed with temporary signals. According to 511 WI, the project involves replacing the bridge deck, repairing the abutments and widening the bridge.

Highway 10 is undergoing a pavement rehabilitation project from WIS 29/35 to South Junction of US 63. According to 511 WI, the project includes 14 miles of new asphalt, replacing culverts, widening shoulders, replacing guardrails and replacing pavement markings. Tumaniec said traffic is being detoured via WIS 29/35 to WIS 65.

There are hard closures on Highway 10 east of 1040th Street and west of 730th Street for culvert replacements to be completed in October.

A cleaning and painting project on a Rush River bridge on WIS 29 is also in progress. There is no schedule for completion at this time.

Highway Commissioner Chad Johnson said the primary project for the county is County Road CC. Johnson said pavement is starting the week of June 17 and will span from WIS 29 to about 570th Avenue.

The week of June 24, the county will sealcoat some local and county roads including portions of County Road B and County Road OO.
