Head Football Coach Jordan Hansen and his club enter the week as the #4 ranked team in Division 4 and the Ellsworth Panthers are ranked #5. Undefeated West Salem is the top ranked team in Division IV. 

Prescott running back Barrett Temmers eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the third consecutive game against Somerset on Friday. The talented senior has scored eight touchdowns and averaged an impressive 8.6 yards a carry. Senior signal caller Teddy Bernick has completed 69.7% of his passes and thrown 11 touchdowns after five games. Wide receivers Will Packard and Kobe Russell lead the team in pass receptions with 22 and 21 respectively. On defense, senior linebacker Owen Bayer is the team’s leading tackler, linebacker Lewis Kinneman is second and defensive end Wyatt Wrisky is third on the team in tackles. 

The Prescott Cardinals are now ranked #4 by the Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Association state rankings. The Cardinals’ impressive showing this month in tournaments involving #1 ranked Divine Holy Savior, #2 Hartland Arrowhead, and #3 Brookfield show the Cardinals can more than compete at the Division 1 level. The four-time WIAA Division 2 State Champions are the favorite to advance to the team state tournament next month. 

Wow. That’s the best word to describe the work of Mark Hawkins at the newest baseball shed at Firehall Field. From shelving to storage nooks, to wood platforms and hanging hooks, Hawkinson’s construction and organizational skill set would impress any garage owner. Hats off to Hawkins whose many hours of volunteer work led to countless ohs and ahs for those who entered the storage building. Be sure to check it out when you have the chance.

Head Volleyball Coach Geoff Snyder will host Baldwin-Woodville on Thursday and St. Croix Central next Tuesday in Middle Border Conference play. Both games begin at 7 p.m.  

Speaking of baseball, the Prescott CAB Company is planning on putting Firehall Field to sleep this Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. Infield maintenance and other field touch ups are on the agenda as the 2024 baseball season officially comes to a close. Brady Randolph, Charlie Block, Brad Matzek and field manager extraordinaire Jim “Juice” Johnson hope for a strong contingent of volunteers this Saturday. 

Junior linebacker Jack Olson and senior offensive lineman Austin Fox, both Prescott High School alumni, helped the UW-River Falls Falcons clobber Grenville University (Illinois) by a score of 66-7. Ranked #7 in NCAA Division III, the Falcons will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio this Saturday to take on Mount. St. Joseph University. 

Prescott graduate Reese Ptacek registered three kills against #9 ranked Creighton but the 10th ranked Jayhawks fell to the Bluejays at the Jayhawk Classic last weekend. Earlier in the tournament, Kansas knocked off #6 ranked Purdue. The Jayhawks will be back in action this Wednesday as they will host the University of Central Florida Knights at 6 p.m. This match will be broadcast on ESPN. 

From the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources: Last week the DNR announced the winners of the 2025 Wisconsin wild turkey, pheasant and waterfowl stamp design contest. Talented artists from around Wisconsin submitted artwork for judging, which took place on Aug. 24 at the Wisconsin Waterfowl Expo in Oshkosh. The winning entries will be featured on the next editions of the wild turkey, pheasant and waterfowl stamps. Holmen resident Robert Leum took first place in this year’s wild turkey and pheasant design contests. Jon Rickaby of Suamico took first place in the waterfowl design contest.

Headshaker of the week:  Whether it be high school, college, or professional events spectators must always be mindful of those around them. When the cheers or enthusiastic fans turn into foul mouthed adult tirades regarding the officials or play calling, remember those within a 20-to-30 foot radius are still learning their “A, B, Cs” and how to multiply and divide. Yes, we all understand we get “caught up in the moment” from time to time, but it never justifies the use of curse words within an eye shot of the little one. Fans, clean it up. It’s a headshaker.
