ELLSWORTH – St. Francis School celebrated the feast day of its patron saint, St. Francis of Assisi, on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
Father David Olson celebrated Mass and delivered a sermon on the life and teachings of St. Francis. He emphasized the saint's deep connection to all living creatures and his dedication to promoting spreading the teachings of Jesus to all living creatures, even to a wolf that had been terrorizing a village.
Following the Mass, the church's lawn transformed into a colorful scene as students and their families brought their pets for the much-anticipated pet blessing. Dogs, cats, birds, horses, hamsters, and even a few stuffed animals gathered with their owners for this blessing.
Father Olson, blessed each animal individually, sprinkling holy water and offering words of blessing and protection.
"Today, we celebrated our patron saint and reinforced the values of compassion and responsibility that are at the core of our educational mission,” said St. Francis School Administrator Mark Matzek.
