Veteran Views: Paying tribute to Vietnam Veterans

The Pierce County Veteran Service Office is planning to conduct a ceremony to honor and pay tribute to all Pierce County Vietnam Veterans and Surviving Spouses at the Pierce County Fair on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024.

There will be a "Wisconsin Remembers A Face For Every Name" on display in the Beldenville Old Car Club Building. The traveling exhibit features a photo for each of the 1161 Wisconsinites officially listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington DC. The exhibit also includes additional photos for names that are listed on the High Ground Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Neillsville, Wis. Wisconsin Remembers is a tribute to lost life and lost potential.

Melissa Hildebrandt, Pierce County CVSO and Tami MacGregor, Veteran Case Coordinator, report that they have been provided substantial lists of names of Vietnam veterans and surviving spouses of Vietnam veterans by local veterans organizations.

"The Vietnam War 50th Anniversary is our opportunity to celebrate the Vietnam veterans and families service and sacrifice, honor their names and recognize them with a pinning ceremony,” said Hildebrandt.

Further, the Pierce County Veteran Service Office would like to reach out to the community in search of additional veteran information. If anyone knows of Vietnam veterans or surviving spouses that should be included, please contact the Pierce County Veteran Service Office at 715-273-6753 or send them an email at pcvso@co.pierce.wi.us by or before July 17, 2024.
