Family Resource Center gets ready to renovate

BALDWIN – Family Resource Center St. Croix Valley (FRCSCV) held a groundbreaking ceremony for their upcoming renovation project, Thursday, July 27 at their office on Main Street in Baldwin. FRCSCCV is a non-profit founded in 1998 whose mission is to strengthen children, families, and communities by offering education resources and support. FRCSCV works with families with children prenatal to kindergarten entry in Pierce, Polk, and St. Croix counties, at no-cost to families.

FRCSCV’s building is approximately 100 years old and approximately 6,000 square feet in size. As the need to serve more families continues to increase, this project will improve the functionality of the current building and allow room for growth. The scope of the project will include a new and improved façade, providing less confusion and ease of access for guests and a more aesthetically pleasing store front for Main Street. Also included are additional workstations to accommodate anticipated staff growth, two consult rooms and one home visiting space where visits with families can be confidential, along with a new conference room and secure entry system. On the ally side of the building, there will be improved access with a reconstructed wall, improved roof drainage, new staff entrance and awning, security improvements, and accessible staff parking.

To date, FRCSCV has 78% of the projected total renovation costs pledged and has applied for capital grants from Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation for a construction grant (funded), Village of Baldwin Façade Program (funded), Otto Bremer Trust, (funded), Fred C. & Katherine B. Andersen Foundation (funded), Hugh J. Andersen Foundation (funded), Royal Credit Union (pending) and FRCSCV Board Development Committee launched a quiet campaign to establish a matching fund for community capital donations to the project.

In partnership with Studio EA and Kraus-Anderson, the project is scheduled to begin this fall and be completed prior to the new year.

Jennifer Griggs-Andress, FRCSCV Executive Director said “we want to thank everyone who joined us to celebrate this special day. Having children with their families participate in this celebration added tremendous value and was a testimony to the work we do. We cannot wait to welcome the community back into our newly renovated space. We are so appreciative of all our community partners for their role in making this happen.”

In attendance at the event were several FRCSCV family participants, partners, community members, FRCSCV staff and Board of Directors.
