Kenneth Melvin Roen, age 92, of Prescott, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. He was born on Feb. 22, 1932, in River Falls, Wis., the son of Melvin and Helga (Borgerson) Roen. Kenneth attended River Falls High School, graduating with the class of 1950, and furthered his education at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, earning a master’s degree in education. On Aug. 12, 1961, he married Deanna Blunt at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, Iowa.

Kenneth’s life in Prescott was a testament to his enduring love for the community, where he lived and thrived for an impressive 65 years. His journey was deeply intertwined with Prescott, highlighted by his dedicated 37-year career as a respected teacher at Prescott Schools. Beyond the classroom, Kenneth’s true passions came to life.

He possessed a remarkable skill in woodworking, finding solace and fulfillment in refinishing furniture and meticulously caning chairs. His hands were happiest when immersed in the earth, tending to his beloved gardens and feeling the soil between his toes as he moved barefoot through his yard. An avid collector, Kenneth’s fascination with antiques reflected his appreciation for craftsmanship and history, each piece cherished and proudly displayed in his home.

Yet, perhaps his greatest source of joy was the family cabin nestled by a serene northern lake. Here, amidst tranquil waters and the embrace of nature, Kenneth found sanctuary and created enduring memories with those he held dear. His legacy resonates not only through his professional contributions and hobbies but also in the warmth and generosity he shared with all who knew him.

Ken and Deanna were charter and active members of Joy Lutheran Church in Prescott for almost 50 years. Ken and Deanna also owned and operated the K-D-Did Gift Shop, becoming an integral part of the Prescott community. Ken worked at the Afton Apple Orchard for 32 years. He enjoyed being part of the team and was awarded for his work there.
