Sue Hiniker, age 88 of Prescott, died Saturday, June 15, 2024 at Regions Hospital following an unexpected medical emergency.

Sue was born on May 26, 1936 in Red Wing, Minn., the daughter of Irwin and Helen (Cremer) Magee. Sue attended elementary school in Prescott before graduating from Derham Hall High School in St. Paul in 1954. She would further her schooling at Barry College in Miami, Fla. where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics in 1958.

On June 28, 1958, she walked down the aisle at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Prescott and said, “I Do” to a young man from Hastings. H. Peter Hiniker and Sue Magee were married and embarked on 66 years of marriage, which included the addition of six children. Sue was through and through a homemaker who cherished her family. She was a true matriarch who took the greatest pride in tending to her family. She loved hosting family dinner events and enjoyed planning parties with fun hors d’oeuvres, even teaching a class at the local high school. Sue thoroughly enjoyed traveling and had wonderful family filled memories whether to Florida, Mexico or Europe. If you knew Sue, you came to appreciate her devotion to her faith. Her Catholic faith was evident in her daily routine and the care in which she raised her children. Her rosary was worn out as she recited it daily, praying for her family and friends’ well-being. Sue also enjoyed working with young girls as the first woman Field Director for the Miss Wisconsin pageant, as well as the Girl Scouts for numerous years.

Sue will remain in the hearts of her husband H. Peter; children Michael Hiniker, Peter (Melody Dikkers) Hiniker, Mary (Larry) Johnson, Mark (Tina) Hiniker, Craig Hiniker and Nancy (Ramon) Perez; grandchildren Tori, Tyler, Tara Johnson, Sophia, Michael Perez; brother-in-law Edward Hiniker, sisters-in-law Allene Hiniker and Mary Magee. Preceded in death by her parents Irwin (Helen) Magee, brothers John Magee and Robert (Gayle) Magee, sister-in-law Joan Hiniker and brother-in-law John Hiniker.

Mass of Christian Burial for Sue Hiniker will be 11am, Wednesday, June 19 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Prescott. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior, from 9-11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Prescott.
